Almost half of shoppers quizzed in a survey don’t believe they will ever return to their previous level of in-store shopping.
The figure of 46.7% of shoppers who said this is almost double that of six months ago as the original lockdown ended when 25.5% expressed that view.
Online booking and customer engagement platform Appointedd conducted the two surveys, one in June and one in December 2020 to track any changes in how the public feel about in-store shopping since living with Covid-19.
The good news is that it’s not all gloom for high street shops, as, in June, 45.3% of respondents claimed that following the pandemic they planned to shop more locally, six months on this number has rocketed to 64%.
As we come to the end of 2020 the Shop Safely Survey gives a glimpse of what retail, post Covid-19 might look like and how this has changed this year.
The latest poll undertaken last week, highlights that people are becoming used to some of the safety first shopping enhancements introduced; almost 70% want the ability to book guaranteed entry slots and virtual shopping experiences have risen in popularity from 20% to almost 30% today.
Appointedd said that Covid-19 has prompted the need for omni-channel retail offerings and this follow up survey highlights shoppers willingness to adopt new approaches.

“We’ve now had six months of living with the pandemic and it’s interesting to see just how much consumers have embraced new ways to shop.
“Our Appointedd virtual and online services are now used by three times as many retailers as at the start of 2020″
